Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Phonecard?

An international phonecard allows you to make low cost international calls to destinations all across the world from the UK and abroad. You can use any landline phone, any mobile or even a payphone.

Where can I buy the Speakeasy International Phonecard?

Our most popular Talk Direct Travel phonecard is available from your local Bureau De Change, Airports, Train Stations and Hotels. Other Speakeasy phonecards are available from your local high street retailers and oriental supermarkets throughout the UK and Ireland.

How can I Top Up online?

Once you have bought a Speakeasy Phonecard you will then be able to top up the phonecard online. You can top up from £5 to £50.

When does the top up expire?

  • Any top up made online will extend the validity period for your phonecard by 365 days (120 days for Love2Talk phonecard) after applying it to your card.
  • If you reach 365 days without topping up (120 days on Love2Talk), then you will lose any credit that was left over.

Does your service always work 24 hours a day 7 days a week?

Yes the service is 24 hours, seven days a week - though no telephony service can offer 100% guaranteed service due to reliance on other telephony companies. We do our best and use quality routes only. We have quality checks in place to help avoid poor quality lines and give you the best possible call experience.

If you do happen to experience a poor connection, please call our dedicated product support (open between 8 am to 6 pm - 7 days a week):

Call Me Baby: 0330 221 2987

Love2Talk: 0330 221 9930

Love2Talk GOLD: 0330 221 9931

Talk Direct: 0330 221 9932

Speaksaver: 0330 221 9933

Calls to 0330 (UK Local) cost no more than calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02) and must be included in inclusive minutes and discount schemes in the same way. Calls from landlines are typically charged up to 10p per minute; calls from mobiles typically cost between 10p and 40p per minute. Calls from landlines and mobiles are included in free call packages.

You can also Contact Us and we promise to look into it and get back to you as soon as possible. Please remember to include your 10 digit phonecard serial number, located on the reverse of the card under the Speakeasy logo.

How do I use the Speakeasy International Phonecard?

Please visit the Rate & Coverage page for a step by step instruction, including the facility to download a PDF version of our Talk Direct Travel Instruction Guide.

Note: If you're using a mobile, please remember not to press the dial green/send button after entering the destination number on your mobile as the call will disengage from our network and automatically re-route to your mobile network (call charges may apply)

What is an Access Number?

The Access Number is the telephone number you dial to connect to our services, and once you connect, simply follow the instructions to make a call.

Which Access Number should I use?

You can dial any of the Access Numbers listed on the reverse of the phonecard. We offer more than one Access Number to give you a choice. Generally the Local Access Number 0330 UK Local is the cheapest when calling from your landline or mobile. If you are calling from a payphone, it may be better to use the dedicated Freephone Access Number 0800 051 3859. We do suggest that you check with your telephony provider or mobile network to check charges to ensure that you use the cheapest method for you.

Please note there is a 25p per minute surcharge to call the Freephone Access number from a payphone. This is a charge that has been imposed by the payphone operators and, unfortunately, something that is beyond our control. We recommend that you use the Local Access Number where possible, or seek and alternative way of accessing our service, either by mobile or landline, via the 0330 UK Local access numbers.

Where is the PIN?

The PIN is underneath the black scratch panel below "STEP 2" on your phonecard.

What is Fast Dial (PINless dialling)?

  • We have a smart telephony platform that can remember your phone number. After you have called the Access Number and entered your PIN, simply press *5.
  • When you call the Access Number again, the system takes you straight through to make a call.
  • If you wish to stop PINless dialling call the Access Number and then simply dial *9.
  • For follow on call press ###
  • Last number redial *1

How do I call back to the UK or call between countries when abroad?

You can use our services from the UK to call anywhere in the world, and you can also call anywhere in the world from 48 different countries when abroad. Simply check the reverse of your phonecard for the most popular countries and their Freephone access numbers. All other countries and their Freephone access numbers are available from the
Rates & Coverage page or check the Talk Direct Travel Instruction Guide for more information. Please note when you visit our website you will need to enter a valid phonecard serial number to check rates and coverage.

When travelling abroad, we strongly recommend that you do not use your UK mobile as high roaming charges will apply. If you are using an unlocked mobile with a local SIM then dial the Local Access numbers available for 19 countries (see Talk Direct Instructions Guide and the Rates & Coverage page for more information).

Payphones in some countries may require a local coin (usually refunded) to obtain a dial tone.

Note: Local restrictions (outside of our control) occasionally prevent the use of phonecards because some hotels, resorts and locally operated Payphones block access to all phonecards (except those issued by the local telephone operator). Where available, please use an alternative Landline or Payphone.

Who can help me if I have any further questions about the Speakeasy International Phonecards?

Our customer service support is available Monday to Friday 9 am - 5 pm. You can Contact Us and we promise to look into it and get back to you as soon as possible. Please remember to include your 10 digit phonecard serial number, located on the reverse of the card under the Speakeasy logo.

Alternatively, you can contact our dedicated product support (open between 8 am to 6 pm - 7 days a week):

Love2Talk: 0330 221 9930

Love2Talk GOLD: 0330 221 9931

Talk Direct: 0330 221 9932

Speaksaver: 0330 221 9933

Calls to 0330 (UK Local) cost no more than calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02) and must be included in inclusive minutes and discount schemes in the same way. Calls from landlines are typically charged up to 10p per minute; calls from mobiles typically cost between 10p and 40p per minute. Calls from landlines and mobiles are included in free call packages.

Can I call UK premium numbers or non-geographic numbers via the Phonecard?

You CANNOT use this service to dial premium rate services.

How do I get charged?

  • You ONLY get charged when your call is connected. This is a charge per minute, rounded up to the nearest minute. To see the latest 'per minute' rates to your country visit the Rates & Coverage page.
  • There are no hidden fees or connections charges with our Talk Direct Travel and Love2Talk phonecards. Our other phonecards such as Call Me Baby, Love2Talk GOLD and Speaksaver have a connection charge that apply to 4-6 destinations only. This is a very small fee that is required to cover the cost of our UK switching equipment. We do not apply any 'daily maintenance fees' or 'termination fees' on any of our phonecards.

Are there any additional charges or surcharges?

  • If you call from a public payphone in the UK, there is a 25p surcharge per minute to cover charges imposed by the payphone operators.
  • Calls made using 0808/0800 Freephone access numbers from a UK mobile will incur a surcharge of up to 9p per minute deducted from your card. Additionally, some mobile operators may charge you to call a Freephone access number, so it is generally cheaper to call the 0330 Access Number (UK Local) and use your bundled minutes (if you are on a plan). If you are on a PAYG rate or out of bundle minutes, then you will be charged your network landline rate. Please check with your mobile network provider to get the correct rate.
  • If you call any Access Number from a hotel phone, we have no ability to influence additional call charges imposed by the hotel itself. Please check with your hotel on these charges prior to making a call.
